Item Description
Child's heavy cotton sweatshirt w/body size 15.5x19", total of 46" from sleeve to sleeve. Chest has 5.5x6" printed design depicting Superman from waist up, breaking chains w/"Superman" comic book title logo below. No other markings or tags but by Norwich Knitting, 1940. Shirts were sold by them for 69¢ and was also offered as a premium through the Gum Inc. Superman Bubble Gum Club as shown in their prize folder. It was obtained by either sending 55¢ and five gum wrappers or for free by getting 55 people to join the club. Shirt has scattered aging but chest image shows little wear and design remains clean and bold. VF/Exc. overall. Very rare, w/only a few known examples, this just the second example we've offered in our 50 years. Comes w/photocopy of period ad as shown for reference. Franco Toscanini Collection.
