Item Description
Nice quality 11.75x11.75" rayon handkerchief w/2-3/8x3.5" image of five-color Superman image from waist up, breaking chains around his chest. "Superman" comic book title logo underneath w/Superman Inc. copyright. Dark green color variety. Produced in 1940 by Kenin, Gordon and Zimmerman, Inc. Folded into quarters, handkerchief has tiny hole w/.25" hole in corner opposite image and tiny line of staining in quarter next to image. Fine overall, but no signs of wear to Superman image, which is Exc. Another handkerchief was produced w/full figure flying image of Superman, but the variety offered here is not shown in "The Adventures Of Superman Collecting" by Matetsky. The other version is also listed in the Hake's Pop Culture Memorabilia Guide w/value of $3,750. Among the rarest and most desirable 1940s Superman merchandise items. Rare and only the second we've seen or offered in our 50 years, the last example (blue variety) sold in our Nov. 2014 auction for $5,705.
