Item Description
This incredible, one-of-a-kind item is dated 1930 for a proposed product which would have been among the first pieces of Disney merchandise produced, but to the best of our knowledge, it was never actually put into production. The original art, done in India ink and watercolor is attributed to Earl Duvall, an inker of Floyd Gottfredson's daily strips in late 1930-1931 and he was also the creator of Bucky Bug. Hand-lettering is attributed to Jack King, an animator under Earl Duvall. First item is 5.5x9.5x.5" deep box, simply a box for generic bridge set that was customized w/overlay panel on stiff paper w/original art for this set. This was originally applied over generic set's label, but is now loose. Box is well worn, Good. Box art panel features bridge playing scene w/Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Horace Horsecollar and Patricia Pig. 5.5x9" paper instruction sheet w/Mickey art and ©1930 Walter E. Disney. This has lines drawn to represent instructional text to be added to the final product. Next are four score pads, each 3x5.25. Original art covers feature Mickey on two and Minnie on two, all in different poses. Next are the tallies, each 2x5.5". Set was to include 16 different, but there are actually 19 in this lot. Three have color original art for Mickey, Minnie and Patricia Pig, w/names below portraits. Mickey and Minnie also have hand-lettered text listing all 16 different character tallies by name. There are 16 additional tallies for these characters, all w/Indian ink original art. These are - Patricia Pig, Clarabelle Cow, Dorothy Duck, Minnie Mouse, Harriet Hen, Gloria Goose, Phyllis Frog, Rebecca Rabbit, Horace Horse, Percy Pig, Davey Duck, Mickey Mouse, Roy Rooster, Godfrey Gander, Ferdie Frog, Reggie Rabbit. Final item is 4.5x4.5" cut-out place card w/original art of Minnie next to sign where player's name was to be filled in. Lid art has some scattered margin wear/aging but is Fine/VF. All else shows just the slightest aging and is Exc./NM. Unique. Disney product original art from the 1930s is almost non-existent in the collecting world, and you would be hard pressed to find any nicer than this, if you can find any at all. We offered this item back in 2011 where it sold for $4,111 and it has now been re-consigned by the winning bidder. Don't miss out this time, this is among the most incredible Disney items we have offered in our 50 years.
