Item Description
1.25" no back paper but likely made by National Equipment Co. High contrast black and white real photo graphic of a herald trumpeter on a draped flag crossed by an axe. She sounds the clarion while steadying a detailed American flag w/her left hand. Minor surface wear in reflected light. NM displaying Mint. Do not confuse this button w/the scarce and more frequently available blue variety. This black and white real photo variety is an outstanding suffrage rarity differing in the clarity of the central image and the presence of an actual American flag. The six stars at left of text indicate this button is c.1911 the year California became the sixth state to allow  equal suffrage for women. Alva Vanderbilt Belmont, the millionaire socialite known for donating large sums to British and American suffrage efforts, founded this group in 1909. She would later partner w/Alice Paul founding the National Women's Party where she was instrumental in organizing the first protest outside of the White House. An outstanding and historic suffrage rarity that you won't likely see again soon.
