Item Description
29" dia. on oilcloth w/original elastic ring still clinging to a tire. Manufactured by "Lakeside Corporation" in "Milwaukee, Wis." and bearing a "Sign Writers Local 770" union bug at bottom center. Produced for Hoover's re-election campaign w/portrait at center and text above and below. Moderate crackling and toning of paint and some tiny flakes of missing surface applications contained to the top and back edges. VF. Comparatively speaking this piece is notably finer than the majority of surviving tire covers we have encountered. Artifacts from Hoover's 1932 campaign are notoriously scarce. That combined w/the rarity of tire covers for any candidate make this a truly exceptional campaign piece. Leon Rowe Collection.
