Item Description
12.5x17". This is "Volume 1 Number 1" dated "Boston, Wednesday, January, 1, 1845." Four pages. Masthead features woodcut of a hanging scene w/soldiers in the background, a family begging the executioner for mercy, a cheering crowd and even a man selling "Refreshments." Lafayette quote below "I Shall Ask For The Abolition Of The Penalty Of Death Until I Have The Infallibility Of Human Judgment Demonstrated To Me." Horizontal fold at center as issued, complete separation at spine, edge tears, losses and tan staining. Good. An incredible survivor that is the first we can recall encountering in the collecting community.
