Item Description
7" dia at swell by 8" tall and 11" from spout to handle. Transfer on body of teapot pictures the Irish temperance advocate Father Theobald Mathew preaching to a group w/a banner above reading "The Celebrated Advocate Of Temperance Administering The Pledge." Lid has design featuring a beehive w/banner above reading "By Industry And Temperance Our Wealth Will Increase." Surprisingly no hallmark on base considering the overall quality of the workmanship of this striking teapot w/lustre highlights. A less than 1" vertical hairline crack affecting the fluted top above one of the transfers. Extremely Fine. An outstanding artifact likely produced around Father Mathew's visit to America in 1849.
