Item Description
5x10-3/8" single-sided paper flyer printed by the "Tunney Rooters," a group of supporters of fighter Gene Tunney, who was considered the underdog for the Sept. 23, 1926 boxing match that took place at Philadelphia Stadium in Philadelphia, PA. The bout was for the "World's Heavy-Weight Championship" and saw the match end in an upset, w/Dempsey losing his title on points in 10 rounds. Attendance for this fight was a record 120,557, the largest attendance ever for a sporting event outside motor racing and soccer. Handout notes the various forms of public transportation serving commuters traveling to the fight, w/"New Jersey Central" logo, train schedule and ticket prices at bottom third. Top center has 5/8x1.5" V-shaped piece out of margin. Fine overall. Rare and esoteric piece of boxing ephemera.
