Item Description
This is a most unusual button issued in 1898 with a back paper that includes name of maker W&H as well as product name of the American Pepsin Gum Co. as "El Capitan Chewing Gum." Button is one of a small series of giveaways from the early years when button mania swept the country. The unusual aspect of this button is that the image is created in the pointillism technique of painting with small, distinct dots of color forming much of the scene which shows a turn of the century mailman carrying his mail bag, holding letters and standing next to a mailbox at a junction of city streets with buildings in the background. NM displaying Mint. Collectible Pin-Back Buttons color plate page 158 specimen. Comes w/Hake's COA. Rare.
