Item Description
Blank back paper w/ribbon in Maryland state colors of black and gold held under spring pin on reverse. Ribbon reads "Coolidge And Dawes Mass Meeting October 1924." Moderate wear to gilt application of lettering, Fine. Button features oval portraits of candidates w/elegant frames featuring a diminutive star at the top of each and another at center. A few scattered light grey dots in background that are likely a result of the paper used in manufacturing. Otherwise only light surface wear in reflected light. Exc. displaying Mint as made. This design is similar to Hake #1 w/that variety utilizing this design in blue ink w/additional text, see next lot #295. Additionally we note its similarity to Hake #2002 but that variety was 1.25" w/inscription from the inauguration. This button was recently discovered at the grass roots level by our consignor and is previously unknown to the collecting community. An exciting opportunity for the advanced collector to obtain a truly rare and important 1924 campaign button.
