Item Description
Original cardboard box w/illustrated paper lid label contains 4.75x6.5x1.5" tall tin litho base w/4.5" tall celluloid figure of girl (holding sailboat) seated in tin litho rocking chair. A celluloid duck and three-legged tin litho stool w/wire post are on either side of her, the post holds 5" dia. celluloid umbrella that has four attached celluloid accent balls. When umbrella is in place, toy has total height of 9". Made in Japan by Alps (as marked on toy) and distributed by Best Maid, 1930s. Box shows moderate wear w/two lid corner splits and 1.25x1.5" piece missing from bottom center of lid label. Rest of box has scattered aging/dust soiling, but box retains its shape. VG overall. Toy comes w/key and when wound, works well; duck revolves (but no longer produces quacking noise), girl rocks in chair as her jointed head nods and umbrella revolves. Toy has some scattered wear to edges of base and scattered dust soiling/aging to celluloid parts. VF overall. Great design. Gary Selmonsky Collection.
