Item Description
19.5x24.5" framed. 15x20" newsprint broadside published on the second day of the Irish Civil War, dated June 29 1922. Issued by the Republican militants led by Eamon de Valera who were opposing the Provisional Government led by Michael Collins. Reads in part "Fellow Citizens Of The Irish Republic The Fateful Hour Has Come... The Crash Of Arms And The Boom Of Artillery Reverberate In This Supreme Test Of The Nation's Destiny." Additionally of note is text at bottom that repeats a Winston Churchill quote from "26th June" about the conflict and that "If Not Brought To An End, And A Speedy End- Then It Is My Duty, On Behalf Of H. M. Government, To Say The Treaty Has Been Formally Violated." Repaired separation along horizontal center fold. Handling wear and edge losses. Good. An incredible survivor and the first we have encountered. Professionally framed and matted using museum glass that blocks UV rays.
