Item Description
5x8.5” printed envelope c. mid-1930s. Tarzan Ice Cream Cups offered premium books in exchange for ice cream lids. This envelope was to contain lids which were then mailed to ice cream company in exchange for books. Lids from 12 Tarzan cups were needed for one of the six, 144-page books which included titles: Tarzan, Tailspin Tommy, Bronco Bill, Ella Cinders, Buck Rogers and Zane Grey. Envelope was sent to Maloof Ice Cream Company Inc. in New London, Connecticut. Front side of envelope has listing for “Special Grand Prizes” which were full-length, hardcover Tarzan novels. These were obtained by collecting all six small books and collecting 20 more Tarzan lids, sent with the “Grand Prize Page” from each book and mailing to Maloof. Envelope has handling wear as well as some surface paper lift to Maloof name. Fine. Scarce.
