Item Description
This unusual item is 4" across the top decorated border and 3" from top border edge to the bottom of the teeth, with the entire object having a slight arch or curve as made. Two of the 15 teeth are gone and one has a tiny bit off the tip plus a .5" separation at the remaining tip. The item appears to be made of tortoise shell, a very fashionable material in the 1840 era. The top border is impressed with a very ornate design. At the center is log cabin with roof top flag, flanking tall trees and a cider barrel at left. The scene continues both left and right consisting of a rail fence, another tall tree, and  on each end several flowers accented by stems and leaves. Across the top is "G" (for Gen.) followed by gear-like design in a circle, perhaps meant to be a sunburst above the fence rails and then "Wm. H.  Harris (followed by a second 'sunburst' design) followed by "on"  We've seen a similar object, but that was dated for the 1841 inauguration whereas this undated piece is likely from the campaign. With the exception of the teeth damage, VF. The design is best seen back lighted or held to the light. Rare.
