Item Description
Carcharodon megalodon is an extinct species of shark that lived approximately 28 to 1.5 million years ago, during the Cenozoic Era. Regarded as one of the largest and most powerful predators in vertebrate history, fossil remains suggest that this giant shark reached a maximum length of 52-67 feet, and also affirm that it had a worldwide distribution. Represented in the fossil record primarily by teeth and fossilized remains of the vertebral column (as its skeleton was formed of cartilage rather than bone), the most common Megalodon fossils are its teeth. Characteristics include - triangular shape, heavy-duty structure, large size, fine serrations and visible V-shaped neck. Megalodon teeth can measure over 7" in length, and are the largest in size of any known shark species. We are offering this 5.25" long specimen which exhibits just lt. loss of fossilized enamel along root edge of both sides of the tooth. The tooth's naturally serrated edges are still visible at points. Wonderful coloring. A tooth from one of the oceans' top all-time predators is a must-have.
