Item Description
14.25x21" thin artboard has pencil and ink original art by legendary comic book artist Jack "King" Kirby for page 8 of the Sept., 1962 issue of "Incredible Hulk" published by Marvel Comics. Art was inked by Dick Ayers. Art is for "Banished To Outer Space" story featuring Hulk being shot into space in a space capsule, only to for the capsule to make a crash return to Earth. Page features eight fantastic Space Age panels, showing Rick Jones reacting to General Thunderbolt Ross declaring Hulk is on "A Flight To Infinity," unknowingly having been instrumental in luring the Hulk into a rocket fired into space. Second panel shows Rick attempting to divert the rocket, only for radioactive feedback to shock him (and connect him to the Hulk). Fourth through sixth panels show the space capsule returning to Earth, the emergency parachute opening and the capsule crashing into the ground, which Rick assumes causes Bruce Banner's death. He approaches the downed capsule in second to last panel, w/an enraged Hulk bursting from space capsule in last panel, much to Rick's shock. Handwritten title w/issue/month/page number in grease pencil at top. Additionally, top margin features penciled text concerning note about "Re-Entry Controls." Left margin also has penciled text along bottom concerning action of re-entry. Slight smudge to sixth panel and artboard has some white correctional fluid at top margin as well as small spot on space capsule in second to last panel, but o/w art remains clean and Exc. As good as any Silver Age Marvel comic book page original art by Jack Kirby gets, this stunning piece of original art is even more significant as it likely represents the earliest known Incredible Hulk art by Jack Kirby in existence. To our knowledge, no art from "Incredible Hulk" #1 or #2 has surfaced to date. An incredible opportunity for the collecting community to add early Incredible Hulk original art to their collection.
