Item Description
Original illustrated cardboard box containing exceptional tin litho toy has overall size of 2.5x7x9.75" tall. Made in Japan by Bandai, 1950s and distributed by Bengor Products Co. of New York. © Kagran Corp. Box features image of the toy on top, two side panels feature Howdy Doody character portraits. Scattered box aging and trace of edge wear but box remains tight. Fine/VF. Toy is designed like treehouse w/large cuckoo clock on top of platform. Under the platform is figure of Howdy on a swing next to tree trunk post w/character portraits of Howdy, Clarabell, Flub-A-Dub, Princess, Dilly Dally and Mr. Bluster. Additional images of some of these characters appear on the sides of the clock. Clarabell is on the clock's face and cuckoo separate attachment is Flub-A-Dub. Toy comes w/key and works. As Howdy swings, a bell rings and Flub-A-Dub moves. Hands of the clock also rotate. Complete w/original cardboard string tag noting how toy is to be wound. Tiniest traces of wear w/scattered pinpoint paint nicks but remains totally bright and glossy. VF/Exc. Among the rarest and best designed Howdy Doody items and also a very desirable item among the wind-up toy collecting community. Only the second boxed example w/tag of this toy we've offered in our 50 years.
