Item Description
Original 3-3/8x5x2-5/8" deep illustrated cardboard box contains 2-1/8x5.75x4.75" tall toy that consists of celluloid figures of Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck painted tin cart w/painted tin wheels. Made in Japan, 1930s. Distributed by Geo. Borgfeldt Corp. Nicely illustrated box features an image of this toy on front/back main panels as well as end flaps, only showing Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck instead of Minnie Mouse. It appears varieties were produced for this toy as box lists both Mickey and Minnie's names in conjunction w/Donald. Remaining side panels feature Mickey and Donald portraits. Box has evenly aged and while box is all original and complete, it has 2", 2.25" and 3.5" edge splits and corner tip wear w/some small corner splits. Technically VG but main panels remain Fine for display purposes. Great toy has built-in key and features Minnie seated at back portion of cart, holding original string reins connected to Donald figure, who sits at front of cart. When wound, toy travels about in wide circle while Minnie moves back and forth on shaft running through her body, movement caused by toy's circular motions (not by mechanical action). Minnie's head has minor dent where snout meets face and at left hip, but o/w figure is free of any other dents/cracks. VF. Donald figure is free of any dents/cracks and shows just lt. aging. Exc. Both figures have been restrung. Wheels show some scattered edge wear as does area where front and back portions of cart join, due to movement of toy when is use. VF overall. There are only a few examples of these rare toys known, no other examples having boxes. This is the first we've seen of this box in our 50 years and is most likely the only surviving example. An outstanding Disney rarity.
