9.75x19.25x1.5" deep box contains complete parts for Milton Bradley game No. 4842, ©1940 Superman Inc. This is the first and rarest of the early Superman board games. Lid features great illustration of Superman stopping oncoming airplane, side panels feature additional solo Superman images as well as inset action scenes. Box lid shows edge wear w/color touch-ups along bottom edge and glue repairs to corners, some of which have tape staining. 1" streak of surface paper lift by Superman's head on main lid panel w/color touch-up. VG overall, but still Fine for display. Matched pair of box inserts w/classic full figure Superman image. These are lightly aged and right insert has tiny spot of staining but o/w Exc. 18.5x18.5" gameboard features similar but different/more detailed images as the "Superman Speed Game" board (see items #1771-1772). Surface paper is bright, glossy and clean Some lt. wear at left/right ends of fold. VF.  Missing small instruction folder four of the eight colored wood playing pieces representing "Clark Kent The Reporter/Superman Cloaks." Remaining playing pieces are Exc. Comes w/2-3/8x3-3/8" promotional advertising card for this game featuring image of box and gameboard. Card lists $1 cost. Card has even aging and some handling creases. VG. Scarce.
