Item Description
4.25x4.75" square of thin cardboard has pen and ink original art w/watercoloring for four prototype "Famous Comic Characters" cards. 1940s. Cards feature Famous Artists Syndicate characters Dick Tracy, Lillums, Orphan Annie and Smitty. Back has been quartered off and numbered, w/facsimile back design provided for Lillums card, complete w/character images at top. Additional hand-lettered text notes "Every Chuckles 6-Pack Contains 4 Comic Trading Cards. There Are 36 Cards In The Series. Get Them All." Bottom left corner has some staining, which affect Orphan Annie margin border, but not the art itself. Stain is slight more prominent on back. Fine/VF overall w/bright and clean art. Unique. A standout item for both comic character and non-sports card collectors. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold and comes with LOA.
