Item Description
11.75x16.5" artboard has eight cut out panels attached, each panel featuring heavily shadowed/inked original art scene of boat progressing down tunnel, w/tunnel opening getting larger and larger, only for boat to emerge in last panel among a flock of ducks. Father and son discuss religion and "A Task Most Difficult" as they travel. This is William Gull, one of the main characters of the story based on the serial murders of Jack the Ripper in Victorian London in 1888 (and whom the story postulates is in fact the murderer). Art is by Eddie Campbell and all word balloons have been hand-lettered by noted comic writer Alan Moore. These words balloons are all paste-overs on first seven panels. This story was originally serialized in "Taboo," the story was published in this serial format from 1989-1998 before being collected in 1999. This art was published in "Taboo" #3. Campbell's preliminary pencil sketches for the boat are visible in the tunnel panels, of which the sixth has loosened slightly at right. Each panel has white paint as well as ink, w/a laminate-like covering over image of the younger Gull in last two panels. Bottom left has hand-lettered "From Hell - Chapter 2 - Page 3" note. Artboard has some lt. handling wear, but art remains clean and Exc. All "From Hell" original art is scarce.
