Item Description
2-1/8". While this button is not from the Muchinsky Collection, it is included in his section "S" titled "Baseball Player Pinbacks". Williams is shown as item 14 with an assigned value of $2500. While prices for players having the same button design are as low as $100 there are a handful of others given this same high value as Williams and these are Aaron, Mays, Bauer (one of two designs) and Slaughter. The buttons of this design date from the 1950s. Viewed in reflected light the photographic paper beneath the celluloid is covered in what are essentially microscopic tiny lines. When the button is viewed straight on without reflection none of this is at all apparent and the button displays glossy and essentially Mint. Button reverse is missing almost all the silver flashing and there is a 1.5" section of the collet with a tiny bit of oxidation along with four small dark brown age dots on the curl of the button but none of these show whatsoever on the front. The Muchinsky assigned value should be taken as a marker of the button's rarity. Overall VF and displaying at least NM.
