Item Description
8.5x10.75" on thin paper. Produced by the "Independent Young Americans" and lists an office in Chicago, IL. at bottom left. Text calls for "Universal Mourning" on October 4, 1937 the day Hugo Black "Proved Member Of The Ku Klux Klan" was seated as an Associated Justice of the US Supreme Court. Edge chips most notably are two along bottom left edge .25" and .5" respectively. Otherwise only moderate age toning. VG. No folds and completely flat. We have encountered an anti- Hugo Black button but this is the first time we've seen this handbill. A truly rare and early civil rights artifact.
