Item Description
22.75x28.5" beautifully crafted custom frame holds artboard w/pen and ink original art for "Action Comics" #199 (Dec. 1954) story "The Phantom Superman." Page features six panels w/"Action Comics" title paste-over at top. Superman appears to appear in four panels, but this is in fact The Phantom Superman, an exact duplicate of Superman who uses his powers for evil. Clark Kent drives up to dam in last panel, just in time to see it partially collapse due to the action of The Phantom Superman. Art is by Wayne Boring (1905-1987), an American comic book artist most associated w/Superman during the Golden Age into the Silver Age. Art is clean and Exc. Art is further enhanced by great frame created by artist Dan Makara, featuring collage style utilizing various Superman comic panels from the 1950s, as well as the actual cover for the issue this art was published in (as seen at upper left and lower right). Neat display. Dan Makara Collection.
