Item Description
1.25" w/filled metal back imprinted "Penn Button Works Phila" and having a fixed horizontal pin. Additional text below conjoined jugate image reads "Phila. June 19th, 1900." While Roosevelt was presumed by many to be the likely VP nominee heading into the convention, Sen. Mark Hanna tried to keep him off the ballot pushing Iowa Congressman Jonathan Dolliver and Navy Secretary John D. Long, but without McKinley's support his efforts failed and Roosevelt, reluctant himself, accepted the nomination. This button must have been produced in some haste and is scarcely offered. NM displaying Mint. Ron Koot Collection.
