Item Description
The Baltimore Orioles were an American Association and National League team from 1882 to 1899. The team finished in first place three consecutive years , 1894-1895-1896 and won the Temple Cup National Championship Series in 1896 and 1897. This ribbon badge is 4" long consisting of an open rectangular brass frame with horizontal bar pin on the reverse. The frame suspends an orange and black ribbon joined by two brass links to a 1.75" silver luster tin frame holding a slightly convex celluloid insert showing a pair of large pigs beneath the word "Rooter". We base our date on a badge of the same construction shown in our War section #797 as an 1894 issue for the group Old Time Telegraphers. The association with the Orioles is because this is in the team colors as well as the fact that the pig and "Rooter" concept appears on several other turn of the century items that are clearly baseball related. Tiny traces of dust soil on the ribbon. Rare and Exc.
