Item Description
3.75" long with a moveable large loop on the back of the suspended medal holding a black/orange ribbon (City of Baltimore colors) with an interior metal piece at the top and an exterior bar pin across the reverse. In deep chocolate bronze is a Maltese cross surmounted by a spread wing eagle. At the center is depicted a monument with crossed cannon barrels to the left and crossed rifles with bayonets to the right. The arms of the cross have the text "War 1812/Maryland/Society/Organized 1814." This men's society was formed just after the War Of 1812 as the Association Of Defenders Of Baltimore. In 1893 the name became in its entirety "Society Of The War Of 1812 In Maryland Of Baltimore City." We believe this exact design was used only in 1893 as in 1894 the group merged with four other societies and became the "General Society Of The War Of 1812." Very slight dust traces on the ribbon. VF and rare.
