Item Description
First is a 1" brass pinback by W&H. Against the subtle background of stars and stripes of a flag,  a young man with a strap around his neck and case suspended from it uses both hands to pull a gas mask onto his face. Pair of small chemical symbols below. Text is "Gas Defense Division/Chemical Warfare Service". This group was established June 28, 1918 at the Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland with orders to provide masks "For Men And All Horses And Mules Of Combat Divisions In France." Next is 7/8" button with back paper by Torsch & Franz with ribbon suspended from collet. Depicted is a mask with eye holes and head straps surrounded by text "Md. Open Air League For Our Gassed Boys". Trace of ribbon fade. NM. Both of these are first seen examples.
