Item Description
2.25x4.25x2.5" tall prototype modeled after and/or fashioned from similar European pre-War porter toys, this one features unique hand-made/hand-painted metal trunk marked "Steamer Trunk" on top w/simulated travel labels and "New Type Trunk With Built In Roller" text on side. Porter figure is painted tin/composition. Bottom of trunk has hand-painted "4/14/38 - Erie" text, indicating this prototype was made in Erie, PA (one of Marx's three main factories) in 1938. Wind-up mechanism works, toy travels about as porter "walks" and lifts himself up and down over trunk. Key is original that came w/prototype. Scattered aging/wear, Fine overall. Neat design.
