Item Description
16.75x22-7/8" artboard eight panels (not counting title panel, which is recent photocopy replacement paste-over) of India ink original art by Harold Knerr, who wrote and drew "The Katzenjammer Kids" for 35 years. Artboard features art for Oct. 17, 1948, showing Hans and Fritz observing Mr. Spavin, who is on his way to see the king and sell him his pack of bloodhounds. The boys insult the dogs and Spavin cracks his whip at them. The boys plot revenge as the king arrives, painting the captive fox to look like a skunk, so that when hounds catch the scent, it appears as if they aren't trained properly, landing Spavin in the stocks in last panel. Seventh panel has KFS copyright strip. Eighth panel has been signed by Knerr. Top 5.25x8.5" piece is replacement w/aforementioned title panel replacement. Art remains unaffected. First and last panels have small rectangles of glue staining from text replacement paste-overs, now missing. Seventh panel also has a bit of glue staining at left. Dates and some editorial notations along right margin. Artboard has some scattered handling wear and margin soiling, VG overall. Majority of art remains clean and VF overall.
