Item Description
This amazing handcrafted piece is 3-3/8" long and about .5" thick across the pedals. Moving parts are front handlebars, front and back wheels and both sets of pedals. By each pedal set are a pair of small spoke wheels. By the front pedal the small right wheel is missing otherwise the piece is complete. There is a pin with locking clasp that runs on a diagonal on one side. On the bottom of the bike is a 1/16" thick support tube running between the pedals. This has partially readable tiny engraved text and what we can make out appears to read "Sterling Main Tubes". Below this is another name we can't make out followed by what appear to be numbers. This piece tests as silver of 800-900 fineness. Amazing detail with front and back wheels each having 36 fine wire spokes. Exc. condition other than the one small missing part. The Sterling Bicycle Co. was in operation in the 1890s in Chicago and then Kenosha, Wisconsin. Their slogan was "Built Like A Watch" and their tandem model sold for $75. Amazing construction and perhaps unique.
