Item Description
2x3.5". Mounted albumen photographs each showing a view of the pagoda-style catafalque. Each CDV has imprint "J.F. Ryder Photographist 171 Superior St. Cleveland, O." and "Norton & Luther 243 Superior Street, Cleveland" respectively. Second has faint .5" dia. light brown spot just above the top of the structure at right. Each has minor handling and typical light age toning to mounts. Fine. Scarce. Cleveland was the only city on the funeral route to hold the event outdoors allowing for a massive crowd to attend. Between 10am April, 28, 1865, when the viewing began after a procession from the train station, and 6pm, when the coffin lid was closed, 90,000 visitors paid their respect to the martyred President.
