Item Description
Pair of thin artboards w/India ink original art by Barney Google creator Billy DeBeck. Artboards measure 8.5x18-3/8" and 8.75x18-3/8" comprise complete Sunday page for June 2, 1935. Artboard features total of 12 panels, w/Snuffy Smith and his wife Lo-Wizie frustrated and ready to leave New York. Barney Google implores them to be patient while they wait for their land to sell and to take in the New York sights while they're in town. Snuffy angrily refuses, telling Google to take Lo-Wizie if he wants. The pair go on a tour, visiting the New York Public Library, w/Google explaining how valuable the land is. Lo-Wizie gets distracted by five and dime window display and seemingly disappears. Barney returns to Snuffy, apologizing for losing his wife, who comes out of the store laden w/new buckets and cleaning supplies, only to sit on the curb. Two women mistake her for a homeless person. DeBeck has signed second to last panel. Last panel has King Features Syndicate copyright strip. Hand-lettered word balloons are all paste-overs, third, fourth and sixth panels have these paste-overs missing, revealing original text, which now have glue staining. Artboards are attached w/pieces of packing tape on back and show scattered aging and wear. Fine overall w/art displaying Fine-VF in top half to Exc. in bottom half.
