Item Description
"Superman And The Mole Men" is a 1951 film distributed by Lippert Pictures Inc. and starring George Reeves as Superman and Phyllis Coates as Lois Lane. The motion picture is the first theatrical feature film based on the DC Comics character Superman (two live-action Superman movie serials starring Kirk Alyn had already been shown in cinemas.) The film served as a trial run for the syndicated TV series "Adventures Of Superman," for which it became the only two-part episode, entitled "The Unknown People." Offered here is 21.5x28" half-sheet for the film's original release. This is the much rarer variety poster, which features a totally different design than the other half-sheet poster. This variety features different close-up images of Reeves and Coates at left, looking at a different image of the Mole Men (but in same area as other poster), which has different color bkg. w/additional illustrated Superman image from comic books. A different film scene (not featuring Superman) appears at lower right (example photos shown online). The style offered here is not featured in the film's original release pressbook (example photos shown online). Poster shows scattered moderate wear w/handling creases and margin tears as well as small hole to top margin at right. Pin holes at corners w/scattered margin staining. Lower right corner shows more moderate wear w/small tear. VG/Fine overall, but poster is in its original state w/no restoration other than linen-mounting. While the other half-sheet version is rare, this variety is extremely rare and is the first example we've seen in our 51 years.
