Item Description
7.5x10.5" wooden board has been shaped to resemble a well read copy of "Detective Comics" #64 (originally published June 1942 w/a cover by Jerry Robinson showing Batman and Robin being fired upon in a burning airplane hangar). Instead, artist Dan Makara has provided his own interpretation, showing great Golden Age style art of Batman beaming w/pride at Robin, who has just released his slingshot, scoring a direct hit on gun-toting criminal, who now has robins and bats circling his head in a comical manner. Mixed media original art has been realistically styled, including the correct "Detective Comics" logo, inset Batman portrait at top left, "A Superman - DC - Publication" logo at top right and "Buy War Bonds And Stamps!" text at bottom. Makara has even added two staples to wood "spine" at left, making his art look even more like a comic book. Makara has signed at lower left, adding "'92" date. Exc. Dan Makara Collection.
