Item Description
10.75x29.25" thin artboard w/India ink original art by "Mutt And Jeff" creator Bud Fisher. Art is for May 1917 and features five panels, w/both Mutt and Jeff dressed as World War I era sailors aboard one of the new secret US Navy "'Submarine Killers." Jeff wants nothing to do with it, claiming he's going back to the battleship, wanting nothing to do w/a ship "That Runs Along On the Bottom Of The Ocean On Wheels." Mutt explains the ship doesn't have wheels to which Jeff points at life preservers and says "Well, What Do they Carry All These Extras Tires For Then?" Fisher has signed last panel, which has copyright strip. Blue pencil text across top margin w/editorial notations and publication date(s) along bottom. Right margin shows moderate wear w/edge flakes/chips and 2.5" tear, w/crosses last panel's bottom corner. Artboard is VG overall, but art remains clean and VF. Richard Calusdian Collection.
