Item Description
6.5x23" artboard has Al Capp's pencil and ink original art for May 20, 1937 daily strip. Strip features three panels, w/first panel showing the Yokum's cabin being washed away by water from the dam breaking on Lonesome Polecat River. Two neighbors and a mule are seen sitting in tree as "Wal, Fry Mah Hide!" exclamation comes from inside cabin. Mammy Yokum looks out window in second panel before returning to tense stand-off w/Daisy Mae's family. Pappy Yokum and Li'l Abner are also present in last panel. Capp has signed second panel, which has United Features Syndicate copyright strip. Penciled "Current Events" title at top margin. Artboard comes w/9-3/8x25-7/8" mat (easily removed if so desired). Margins have some aging and scattered wear. First panel has .5x5/8" paste-over w/original art, which has evenly aged. Aside from this, art remains clean and VF/Exc. overall. Ready for framing. Richard Calusdian Collection.
