Item Description
Original cardboard box w/illustrated end label contains 3.25x6.5x5" tall painted cast iron toy engine marked  w/Nov. 20 1900 patent date. Made in Hartford, CT, c. 1900 to 1920s. Box shows obvious aging and scattered edge/corner tip wear. VG. Engine comes w/instruction sheet and small container of graphite for lubrication. Detailed engine ran on a mixture of "Illumination Gas," an early gas generated from coal and used to light homes. Engine was to be attached to an gas supply by a hose and was advertised as running w/explosion at each revolution. Engine is complete and would run if connected to correct gas mixture (see videos on YouTube). Scattered aging/wear, Fine overall. Scarce, especially w/original box.
