Item Description
If we have learned anything in our 51 years it is to welcome an unexpected fluke as far as items being consigned. After never having offered the extremely rare Mickey Mouse Knickerbocker clown doll in our long history, we were surprised and pleased to receive both the 1935 and 1936 versions (see following item #1487) from two different sources. Only a few of either version are known to collectors, the most likely reason is that during this period the Knickerbocker's Cowboy Mickey Mouse doll outsold any of the other costumed Mickey dolls by a large margin, resulting in only a small amount of clown dolls sold. This 11.5" tall doll has stuffed cloth body w/felt ears and oilcloth eyes and was issued in 1935 as the dolls made that year had hands w/separated fingers and formed cardboard shoes w/flocking. Green polka dot one-piece cotton clown outfit w/ruffled muslin collar w/matching green trim and ruffled cuffs. Comes w/professionally-made replacement hat of formed felt in matching green color. Missing pom pom from shoe and hat. The doll itself and outfit have lt. aging w/white portion of Mickey's face being evenly tanned. As typical, doll is missing rubber tail. Cloth covering on undersides of shoes have been replaced, as have his whiskers. Doll stands well and displays Fine overall. Extremely rare and first we've offered in our 51 years.
