Item Description
22x28" thin cardboard w/Globe Poster logo at bottom right. Marquee advertises a "Dance & Show" at "Sunset Lake Park" in "Portsmouth, VA" on "Thursday July 4" 1963 w/"Admission" being only "$1.00". Design featuring floating heads in stars w/the largest at center showing "Ike & Tina Turner" and advertises "Albums/ 'The Soul Of Ike And Tina'/ 'Don't Play Me Cheap'" below and songs "Wake Up", "Fool In Love" and "Poor Fool" at right. Additional acts featured include; "The Ike-Etts", Jimmy Thomas, Stacy Johnson, Vanetta Fields, Flora Williams, Vernon Guy, Robbie Montgomery and Bobby John. Seven staple holes, two of which make small holes affecting the text "Bobby John", at lower right, and the field just above the portrait of Vanetta Fields, at center left. The cardboard itself has three slight waves from minor moisture exposure likely from being displayed outdoors. Age toning and several scattered surface paper lifts most notable are those affecting the portraits of Ike and Tina. Small losses at top corners and a less than ½" edge chip along right side. VG. A rare survivor of the era and a truly outrageous design featuring for the legendary R&B combo. Don't confuse this example w/others having a similar star motif more commonly found in the smaller 16x24" size produced for West Coast shows. This oversized slab of cardboard has additional text, pictures, and was produced by the legendary Globe Posters in Baltimore, MD. While the smaller examples are offered occasionally this outstanding oversized design is the first we can recall being offered in commerce.
