Item Description
15/16" wide ornate embossed brass frame with three tabs on reverse holding in place a square ferrotype. There is no fastener and no soldered residue to indicate one was ever present. Photo shows her with bangs, hat and earrings with "Lydia" name panel below. One dot speck of emulsion off by "I" of "Lydia". NM. Her dancing and pantomime career began as a teenager in Britain and Europe in the 1850s, she became a leading dancer and actress in burlesques on the London stage and in 1868 introduced Victorian burlesque to America with her troupe of "British Blondes" gaining both acclaim and notoriety as the most popular entertainment in New York City in 1868-69. We estimate this piece dates to those years.  First we've seen.
