Item Description
60mm (2-3/8") dia. by nearly .25" thick. Identical to the DeWitt #1 medal for this campaign but on this #2 example his high relief portrait faces left rather than right. The dies were done by Hugues Bovy of Geneva, Switzerland for the Swiss Republican Club. The first version of the medal was deemed unsatisfactory and the obverse die was destroyed after only a few impressions making it very rare. This #2 version has the same reverse as the first version and reads "I Intend To Fight It Out On This Line If It Takes All Summer" with center text "Patient Of Toil,/Serene Amidst Alarms,/Inflexible In Faith,/Invincible In Arms." Two tiny carbon marks on the front barely show and blend with the deep chocolate bronze luster. On the reverse small area at top missing a bit of the chocolate bronze luster. Overall near uncirculated.
