Item Description
Herrick's Pills & Plasters can be documented by an US Internal Revenue stamp to as early as Nov. 18, 1862. The company operated in Albany, NY until 1868-1869 when it was bought  by L.W. Warner Co. and moved to New York City. 7.25x9" thin cardboard sign features striking imagery of monstrous spotted (and presumably diseased) beast between "Disease Cured By Using Herrick's Pills And Plasters" text and notes "Wm. Murphy, Printer, 438 Canal Street, N.Y." along bottom margin. Top margin has pair of holes at center for a string hanger. Lower left corner has .75" corner piece off and sign has some scattered lt. edge wear and aging. The red spots on the "monster" and the snake by its side are somewhat irregular in density and are possibly hand applied. Fine/VF. Rare.
