Item Description
15/16" button, no maker, issued c. 1937-1941 (pre-Pearl Harbor attack) naming group he formed April 1937 to raise funds to buy radio airtime. Button text refers to two of his political positions "No Foreign Wars" and "$100.00 Per Month For U.S.A. Soldiers". Smith moved from NYC to Michigan in 1939 and, supported by Henry Ford, in 1942 ran for senator but lost in the GOP primary to Homer Ferguson. In 1944, to advance his crusade against FDR, communism, liberalism, organized labor and civil rights, Smith founded the American First Party and ran for president with Harry Romer for VP. The same ticket repeated in 1948 but re-named as the Christian Nationalist Party. In 1952, the party supported a General MacArthur candidacy. NM displaying Mint.
