Nine buttons 13/16" to 1.5" plus one litho tin tab "Aid To Russia Helps US". First button pictures Ernst Thaelman (sic) who was the leader of Germany's Communist Party starting in 1925. In 1933 he was arrested by the Gestapo and after 11 years in solitary confinement was executed on Hitler's orders at the Buchenwald death camp in 1944. The button, USA made c. 1936, was issued during the Spanish Civil War inspired by the Thaelmann Battalion of International Brigades named in his honor. Litho buttons are Row 1 #2/3 and Row 3 #3. Row 2 #2 "Attack Hitler Now" has light center stain and #3 "Embargo Hitler" has slight red fade but both are quite scarce. Row 3 #1 promotes Chaplin's movie that mocked Hitler. All but two mentioned are Exc. to Mint.
