Item Description
Original 8x10" news service photo shows police detective in bedroom crime scene, flipping through stack of comic books, w/"Crime And Punishment" #11 being prominently featured along w/"Millie The Model" #16 and "Sugar Bowl Comics" #5, all of which date to early 1949. Back has typed caption paste-over that reads "Examining Suspects Crime Books In Bedroom." Back has extensive printing date stamps and other notations on back including "The Philadelphia Inquirer." Photos are tied to the sex murder of 12 year old Ellis Simons by 16 year old Seymour Levin in Philadelphia, PA in Jan. 1949. The crime was sensational in regards not only to the savage and lurid nature of the crime itself, but in the fact that it was committed against a child by a teenager. Photo has editorial touch-ups and all over surface crazing and scattered handling wear. Fine overall. Interesting insight into how comic books were linked to juvenile delinquency, paving the way for "Seduction Of The Innocent" in 1954.
