Item Description
2.75x4" laminate badge. Badge has "Commander in Chief US Atlantic Fleet" logo in background and text "Pvt. D. C. Bartenbach, USMC/ Information Bureau/ Presidential Visit/ 13-14 April 1962." Pin hole at top and moderate wear overall. VF. Kennedy visited the Atlantic Fleet in April of 1962 and met the Navy SEAL Team 2 during the event in Norfolk, VA. JFK, following the lead of President Eisenhower, recommended the creation of a special operations force that was trained in unconventional warfare. This lead to the creation of two SEAL teams in 1962. This badge was issued in extremely limited numbers and is the first we can recall encountering in five decades.
