Item Description
4.75" long hand-painted and handmade/formed heavy tin prototype made to test concept of wind-up toy cat w/large sparking eyes. Marx, 1938. Underside has hand-painted "Erie - 9/29/38 - 1713" name/date/code, indicating this prototype was produced at Marx's Erie, PA factory. Eye holes are covered in thin red plastic. Toy has strong interior wind-up mechanism and when wound, travels about by means of gear protruding from underside. No spark is produced. Moderate scattered paint wear w/areas of bare metal showing. Fine overall. Comes w/modern issue key and works. This toy was never produced.
