Item Description
Pair of thin artboards w/India ink original art by Prince Valiant creator Hal Foster (1892-1982).  Artboards measure 11.5x24.25" and 23x24.25" (24.25x34.5" combined) and comprise the complete Sunday page for July 6, 1969. Last panel notes strip number 1691. Art features total of eight panels and features Thoric of the Vikings preparing his forces for an oncoming reprisal from King Arthur, whom Thoric is sure has been alerted by Prince Valiant. First panel shows Thoric looking over battlements while second panels shows four Viking longships being prepared. Thoric receives word of the Britons creating a defensive earthwork and sends warriors to scatter the workers. As they do this a horn is sounded and mass of mounted knights burst from the woods. Following two panels see Britons readying themselves for battle; digging trenches and preparing Scorpio trebuchet. Last panel shows Prince Valiant overlooking things and planning the battle. Foster has signed this panel at lower right and panel has KFS copyright strip. Each panel has Foster's standard text panels pasted in place. These have a few scattered areas of aging/glue staining. First panel has aged "Prince Valiant" title stat. Top/bottom corner margins have aged printer's registration labels. Artboards are not attached but could be easily assembled for wonderful framed display. Slight left margin trim and scattered margin/corner tip wear. Artboards are Fine/VF but art remains clean and Exc. aside from small spot of staining to second to last panel.
