Item Description
8x10" two-sided handbill. Front features portrait of Haley in cowboy outfit w/facsimile signature at right "Keep Listening Bill Haley WPWA." Additional text at bottom includes stamp reading "Twin Bar/ Broadway At Market/ Gloucester, N.J." Reverse has advertising for Haley's radio program noting "Presented Daily By The Nations Newest Singing And Yodeling Cowboy" and at bottom "Watch For The Newest Barn Dance Show In Chester, PA. Staring Bill Haley Over WPWA."  Bill Haley And The Saddlemen were the house band at the Twin Bar in Gloucester, NJ in 1951. It was here that the toiling country western DJ and band leader added a drummer and a lead guitarist to blend the beats of country western and R&B, a critical step in the impetus of rock 'n roll. By 1952 the band had updated their name to Bill Haley And His Comets the name under which they recorded "Rock Around The Clock" in 1953 and the rest is history. Corner wear most notably a 1.5" light crease at bottom right and bumps at top r/l. Reverse has scattered and faint light brown spots that do not show on front.  Otherwise moderate handling and age toning. Fine. This flyer is of the utmost importance to the history of rock 'n roll capturing Haley during a period of relative anonymity as he tinkered w/the formula that would ultimately propel rock into the mainstream.
